Losing Weight Foods

Diet.com - Say goodbye to fad diets

There are foods that make you lose weight and of course there are foods which make you put on weight. So which are the best losing weight foods and which foods should you avoid if you are trying to lose weight safely?

The bad news is that there are no strict set of rules governing which exact foods to eat for weight loss. The good news is that there are a wide variety of possible foods that you can incorporate into a slimming diet. Even better news is that it's easy to determine the types of foods to avoid (you probably already know what they are though!).

Many foods make you want more. They induce cravings. Sugar based foods is obviously a big culprit here, hence why chocolate is considered to be public enemy number one. The truth is, you can eat chocolate in moderation and not put on weight. Eating it in moderation is the difficult part for most people, hence its link to weight gain.

So which foods should you eat if you want to lose weight?

Try blueberries. Not only are they delicious but they also contain high amounts of antioxidants which are excellent for your overall health. Broccoli is another of the great losing weight foods. It fills you up and is also full of vitamins.

Grapefruits are ideal for weight loss. It has even been scientifically proven that it's possible to lose weight if you eat half a grapefruit before a meal.

Fish is extremely filling, packed with protein and essential oils. So it's little wonder that sardines are high on the losing weight foods list. Protein helps to stabilize the blood sugar level which assists with cravings. Sardines are also affordable and can be used in a wide variety of recipes.

Of course, all vegetables are ideal for weight loss as they are healthy and filling. However pumpkin seems to stand out as one of the major losing weight foods. It has a ton of fiber and very few calories. Besides all that, it's also delicious!

You've probably heard about green tea and weight loss. It's pretty much fact now that green tea is a slimming miracle. It boosts metabolism, lowers stress, promotes heart health and helps with digestion.

Losing weight foods are everywhere, you just need to incorporate them into your diet in place of some of the other non-essential and non-beneficial foods you may be eating.

Losing Weight Foods Questions & Answers

Resolved Question: Should I stick with vegetarianism?
Okay, so I posted a question earlier about whether or not I should stick with vegetarianism. (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmbQFY8pNDgoIJdzqcycnzMazKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20100212103204AADtLF0) I don’t feel like I fully explained everything, so I’m going to try again. I guess I will start from the beginning of my whole situation which was a little over a year ago. I was overweight all my life, but in January of 2009 I decided that it was time to change that. At age 14 I completely changed my eating habits and starting eating very healthy. I also joined the tennis team and began exercising regularly. By August of 2009 I was down 30 pounds. I started at 150 pounds and have been able to maintain at 120 pounds at 5’5, so it I’m not at an unhealthy weight. At first I started tweaking my diet and learning the ins and outs of eating healthy, but at some point I took it too far and started avoiding certain foods and cutting back unnecessary calories. I did this by not putting cheese on my sandwich or not eating buns with my burgers – any little things like that. Throughout all this time I never recorded my calories and basically ate until I was full or until I felt like I should stop (I used to eat until I was completely full, but I think that was probably why I became overweight). Now let me fast forward a little to this January. At the beginning of January I decided to challenge myself to see if I could be a vegetarian. Since losing weight, I’ve wanted to try to be healthier and I thought and still do think that vegetarianism is one of the healthiest diets to live by so I decided to give it a try. I had also read about how vegetarians need to make sure that they are getting all the right vitamins and went out and bought B-12 vitamins. I had already been taking a multivitamin each day. I also knew that vegetarians need to make sure that they get enough protein and that 50 grams is the recommended amount for each day. I decided that I would track my food for a few days to see how much I normally get without meat and then add more protein if need be. When I tracked my calories I discovered that I wasn’t getting as many calories as I thought I was. I had already been eating a mostly meat-free diet before becoming vegetarian, so it’s not like meat was making up large amounts of my calories. At first I admit that I did try to eat as few calories as I could while still feeling full. I don’t understand why I did this. Then, about a week later I decided that if I’ve been eating like this for a while then my metabolism must be really slow. To fix this I decided that I would gradually up my calorie intake; therefore, I kept tracking my calories. The first week I tried to eat 1000-1200 calories each day. A couple weeks later, this past week, I upped it to 1200-1400, and I plan on doing 1400-1600 for this next week. Around that same time, I started binging on the weekends. Half the time that I binge, it’s on healthy, high calorie foods like nuts and peanut butter, which are good in moderation. I also tend to binge on chocolate and cereal. Most of the time there’s fruit involved too. I don’t think that being a vegetarian is the direct cause for my binges, but I do think that it could possibly be an underlying cause. The big cause is probably the calorie counting, which I started to make sure that I was getting enough protein and then continued to make sure that I was getting enough calories. When I first started binging, I thought maybe it was because my body wanted more food, but now I am not so sure about that. This is because this past week, when I was eating 1400 calories, it was hard for me to eat that much. I was having to eat in the bathrooms at school just to eat enough and was running out of time at lunch. I felt like I was constantly eating, yet I still binged last night and all day today since I was off from school. This binging is really unhealthy and I hate it, but I don’t know how to control it. I think that I need to just stop constantly thinking about calories. I don’t know what to do because I don’t want to binge but I also want to boost my metabolism, which requires me to make sure that I am getting more calories than I was. I’m thinking about giving up on the whole vegetarianism and then upping my protein intake and starting to lift weights because that is supposed to help with metabolism. Basically I don’t know if the whole vegetarian thing is doing more good or bad for me. I don’t think that it is the main cause for my binges, but I can’t deny that it doesn’t play a role somewhere in them. Should I just give up vegetarianism? I only decided to try it for health reasons, although I do recognize the animal torture is terrible and inhumane. I might give it another try when I am more stable, but I’m not sure if now is the right time in my life for it. Thanks for reading all this; I know that it was long, but I didn’t feel like I got everything out in my last question. SORRY ABOUT ALL THE WORDS. I'm just a complete mess and needed to get everything out there.

Voting Question: how much sodium is ok in one serving?

Resolved Question: Should I go vegetarian for a month?
Okay so I am in a competition for losing the most weight. I was considering going vegetarian but there's something that I must know before I officially start to if I do. 1. Healthy recipes that taste good, fairly cheap, and comes in a quantity of more than 1 serving in a pack(example, boxed rice instead of bagged rice.) I need a website for vegetarian recipes or has a very huge variety of vegetarian foods. Please, oh please help me decide. Oh. I might consider staying it if I like it. However, I do have to have SOME kind of meat. I heard that fish is okay to eat for some vegetarians. I'd like to try anyway. If anything what I am most concerned about is cutting out fattening meats. Thanks Cliff, Your display picture made me laugh!

Resolved Question: Intolerance to marshmallows?
My son is 15 months old. He ate mini marshmallows for the first time and the next day got diarrhea. He had it for about 2 weeks before it even started going back to normal poop. Then i told the person who gave him marshmallows not to give him anymore bc it might be why he got diarrhea. Then, they gave him marshmallows again and his poop went right back to liquid. He did not get hives or anything as he would with an allergy. I know that intolerances from foods are different. Things like upset stomach and diarrhea. I've taken him to the doctor and he's not losing weight and he's drinking a lot of liquid and eating. I hadnt realized that the marshmallows may be why he got diarrhea in the first place to i have to talk to his doc again. They have taken diaper samples to the lab and i am still waiting for the results. Has anyone else's children ever had a reaction to eating marshmallows?

Resolved Question: Is it normal that I'm feeling hungry after changing my eating habits?
for a while I was eating a lot of bread, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and popcorn....among other things. but a majority of it was carbohydrates such as the ones listed. I hadn't been eating many fruits or veggies for a long time. I decided to start the raw food diet (not for weight lose, for health) and I've gone to the store and bought a lot of veggies and fruits. and I've been eating them. some cooked, most raw. I'm not 100% raw, I'd say about 95% raw. anyways, I've been feeling hungry, even after eating a lot and feeling full, I get hungry soon after. do you think it's because my stomach stretched out a lot from eating a ton of carboyhdrates and other unhealthy foods. I mean, I used to sit around and eat and eat and eat bread and popcorn and soda and juice like there was no tomorrow. I was out of control. and now I start eating a ton of veggies and fruits and I feel hungry. I hate this feeling because I feel like I am starving myself. what are some good fiber rich fruits, veggies, and nuts? are raw almonds and dates rich in fiber? I like those a lot.

Resolved Question: How did I eat today.....?
Should I be eating less? More? I don't want to lose weight, but I don't want to gain, I want to stay the way I am. I'm an 18 year old male, I'm 5'8" and weigh 157lbs. 1 bowl of Kashi cereal with low fat milk Here's the nutrition facts: http://www.kashi.com/products/nutrition_info/kashi_puffs_original 1 bowl of rice krispies with low fat milk 1 apple 1 clementine 2 bowls of brown rice with ketchup and 2 meatballs, 1 whole wheat pita with 2 slices of cheese 2 slices of whole wheat bread with peanut butter That's about it... All I drink was low fat milk and water. Should I be getting more food a day, or less? Your thoughts?
