Fat loss 4 Idiots

Low Carbs Diet

Diet.com - Say goodbye to fad diets

Is it the truth or a myth that a low carbs diet leads to weight loss? Depending on who you talk to or which book you read, some say that completely eliminating carbohydrates from your diet will accelerate the weight loss process.

In my opinion (and that of many experts), this couldn't be further from the truth. And not only is it false, it's also very dangerous to eliminate all carbs from your diet. Sure, low carb diet plans may work but how low do you go?

Carbohydrates are an energy source. They assist in muscle strength; therefore they are a requirement for a healthy, strong and energetic body. Why on earth then would you want to eliminate them? They are the crazy lengths people will go to lose weight. Sure, you'll definitely lose weight if you stop eating carbs. But you'll also lose muscle and a whole heap of energy. In fact I'd be surprised if you could get through your day without carbs.

The reality is that carbs in moderation are essential. Protein should be a staple in the weight loss diet, and carbs a secondary source. It's a fact that carbohydrates assist in the efficient use of fat, therefore it's possible that eating carbs actually helps you to lose weight!

A low carbs diet is fine If you are sensible about it. Don't completely eliminate carbohydrates. Instead, moderate your intake to include things like wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, cereal, beans and vegetables.

With that said, if you want to lose weight then you'll have to keep your consumption of foods such as pasta to a minimum. Pasta twice per week is sufficient and wherever possible, go for the wholemeal version of pasta, bread and rice.

Some of the carbs that you can eat as much as you want include green vegetables and high fiber cereal. Keep in mind that your intake is going to greatly depend on your activity level. If you are moving around a lot, you will require more carbs for energy. If you are more sedentary then keep your carbs to around 150mg per day.

If done sensibly, a low carbs diet can lead to success. Just don't eliminate carbohydrates completely!

Low Carbs Diet Questions and Answers

Open Question: Looking for low carb foods?
I read online today that Drew Carey just lost 80 pounds and did it on a low carb diet. I emailed my doctor and asked him if he thinks I should go on a low carb diet and also do lots of cardo to help me loose weight like Drew did. He told me it would not hurt to try it and see if it will. He never actually told me what to actually eat that was low in carbs because he was buzy and had to go, I would like to know could someone please help me out and tell me what I could eat for breakfast, Lunch, dinner and maybe for a snack that is low in carbs so that I can try and loose some weight.

Open Question: CAN I LOSE WEIGHT WITH WEIGHT TRAINING AND CARDIO?
I have a friend who is between the age 45-50. She told me that she had been doing weight training & cardio ( but never changed her diet ) and never lost any weight or inches with that program. She complained to her son about it and he told her that the fact that she was working on the weight machines was her problem and that if she did strictly cardio, then she'd lose weight. She took his advice and said the pounds melted off. She lost about 32 pounds in a 12-month period, but again never changed her diet. I have a hard time believing that if you do light weight training along with cardio that you won't lose weight because the more muscle you build, the more fat you burn. I'm telling this story because I am also in that age group and am working on the weight machines. I joined a new gym a month ago and was told by their staff that I should lift weights for upper body one day, lower body & abs the next and alternate, which I already knew and that I should do that first, then do my cardio. They also said that I should have just one day of cardio w/o weights. So, if I continue that workout program AND cut out fat, sugar & carbs and stick to fresh veggies and some fruit & lean meat, shouldn't I be able to lose weight and quicker than 32 pounds in a year? Thanks for your help - and if you have more suggestions give them to me. I'm actually looking to lose at least 15-20 pounds in a 6-week period, or at least lose 2 dress sizes.

Open Question: Going shopping tommarrow, looking for healthiest alternatives? Vegan.?
I am going shopping tommarrow, and am on a low calorie healthy diet. So I guess I guess I am just looking for the healthiest possible forms of these foods, any ideas? 1)Oatmeal (I have heard that there is fresh rather than instant?) 2)Rice (Is there another form besides white? I have heard it contain bad carbs?) 3)Peanut butter (Is there a healthier alternative with just as much protein?) 4)Is I can't believe it's not butter vegan? I have heard it is, and usually don't use butter, so I was wondering. 5)Any good healthy vegan crackers to eat as snacks? I know all of this sounds odd, but I usually have a very bland diet of whole grain bread, fruits, veggies, and tofu, so I am looking to expand my horizons in a healthy way. lol. And is most barbacue sauce vegan? I know obviously the ones with honey aren't.

Open Question: Runners- Nutrition Help!?
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, i run 4 to 5 miles. This week for example it was 4.33,4.3, and 5. I have read in many articles and magazines that you need to eat 15 minutes after a workout is done. Now, I eat a bowl of oatmeal and a banana, sometimes with a slice of toast before i run. I am afraid to undo my efforts, but I usually eat a Clif Bar within the first 15 minutes, today I ate a Raw Revolution Bar, which to my surprise was higher in fat, lower in carbs and proteins, but made with all organics than a Clif Bar. Is the Clif Bar better? I usually eat about 1400-1600 calories a day, but i want to lose more weight. What should I do to alter my lifestyle/diet?

Voting Question: is this weight loss possible?
first of all, don't tell me this isn't healthy. i used to be a kickboxing instructor and nutritionist, and i am well aware that short-term diets are not healthy nor are they as productive. however, i have a kickboxing match coming up IF i can make it in the lower weight class-- which means i have to do a radical diet. don't lecture me. i started this diet off 4 days ago. i was 128lbs, 5'3". today, i'm 124lbs. i've been doing a low carb, low calorie diet. i stay at about 700-800 calories a day and exercise off about 300. is it possible for me to get down to 105 by september 3rd? that would be a 19 pound loss in 39 days, i believe. basically, a pound every other day (3.5 pounds a week). as far as what i've been eating, if you're interested: i've been staying away from breads & carbs. mostly, i've been eating chicken, vegetables, tuna, and egg whites. however, i allow myself a very small amount of chocolate every day (i'm hypoglycemic, so i need sugar or else i get very nauseous). i do not ENTIRELY eliminate carbs. i will make myself a chicken breast, onion & pepper wrap for dinner (250 calories) or something like that. anyway, back to the original question. 19 pounds in slightly over 1 month... yes, no?

Open Question: How much weight will i loose?
If everyday i eat a diet which ranges between 650-750 calories, low in carbs and fat and do 1 hour jumping on a trampoline non stop, 1 hour in the gym, 35 mins cardio and 25 mins weight lifting, then go on a 1.5-2 hour walk and do some sit ups everyday, how many dress sizes will i drop in 3 weeks
