Low Carbs Diet
Is it the truth or a myth that a low carbs diet leads to weight loss? Depending on who you talk to or which book you read, some say that completely eliminating carbohydrates from your diet will accelerate the weight loss process.
In my opinion (and that of many experts), this couldn't be further from the truth. And not only is it false, it's also very dangerous to eliminate all carbs from your diet. Sure, low carb diet plans may work but how low do you go?
Carbohydrates are an energy source. They assist in muscle strength; therefore they are a requirement for a healthy, strong and energetic body. Why on earth then would you want to eliminate them? They are the crazy lengths people will go to lose weight. Sure, you'll definitely lose weight if you stop eating carbs. But you'll also lose muscle and a whole heap of energy. In fact I'd be surprised if you could get through your day without carbs.
The reality is that carbs in moderation are essential. Protein should be a staple in the weight loss diet, and carbs a secondary source. It's a fact that carbohydrates assist in the efficient use of fat, therefore it's possible that eating carbs actually helps you to lose weight!
A low carbs diet is fine If you are sensible about it. Don't completely eliminate carbohydrates. Instead, moderate your intake to include things like wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, cereal, beans and vegetables.
With that said, if you want to lose weight then you'll have to keep your consumption of foods such as pasta to a minimum. Pasta twice per week is sufficient and wherever possible, go for the wholemeal version of pasta, bread and rice.
Some of the carbs that you can eat as much as you want include green vegetables and high fiber cereal. Keep in mind that your intake is going to greatly depend on your activity level. If you are moving around a lot, you will require more carbs for energy. If you are more sedentary then keep your carbs to around 150mg per day.
If done sensibly, a low carbs diet can lead to success. Just don't eliminate carbohydrates completely!

Which one should I try and stick to and how many calories or carbs should I allow myself to a day?? If you wat additional details let me know. Thanks!! Voting Question: Low carb diet daily percentages? I am having a hard time finding recommendations for daily percentages for low carb/high fat diets. I've just cut out all grains from my diet due to a food allergy and I feel like I'm eating A LOT of fat! But I guess if my calories aren't coming from carbs, they have to be coming from somewhere. So my question is, for those of you are on low carb diets, what do your daily percentages look like? For example, today, mine were: 23% carbs, 25% protein, and 52% fat. I'm doing no gluten, no meat (nuts and fish for protein) and very low carbs. Example : a handful of almonds for breakfast, a salad for lunch, a salad for dinner sometimes I will accompany dinner by cooked veggies, too. Before this diet I was having one salad per day and eating a regular meal for the other (meat, carbs, cooked veggies etc.) and I was mainting the same weight when I needed to be losing. Why is it I am not losing weight? I actually gained 3 pounds. How is this possible? What else can I do if diet and exercise are having NOT a slow effect but NO effect. OK let me clarify.... I get acid reflux if I eat "whole grains" and breads and things... plus they aren't as good for you as people would like you to think anyway. They are mostly carbs and yeast which promote weigh retention... plus it bothers my GI function. And if I ate more fruits, veggies, breads and meats I wouldn't be on a diet anymore now would i? Liquid diets are supposed to be temporary... how is that going to create a healthy steady weight loss for me? I have been to the doctor and been checked 5 times for problems, including thyroid malfunctions and have none. And I clearly said I workout EVERY day. And I clearly said I workout EVERY day. Snacks I eat consist of a banana or an apple or unsweetened applesauce. My salad always have tomatoes, carrots, and cheese on them and sometimes but rarely have about an ounce of turkey on them.
